Should Breen photos be edited to create a white background?

I'm going to be working with several individuals to reformat the Breen pages and add more photos ... Here's the big question:

Do new photos need to be edited? Is a white background a "must"? It's obviously much quicker to add images online if we don't need to invest time in photo editing.

So, what do you think?
